Conference - "Defining the Age: Daniel Bell and His Time"
The distinguished sociologist Daniel Bell had a singular ability to put his finger on the central tendencies of America and the West in the second half of the twentieth century. This conference will examine Bell's ideas and how those ideas look today's context. The conference will engage historians, journalists, and social scientists in an effort to assess Bell’s contribution (on the one-hundredth anniversary of his birth) and to reconsider the questions at the heart of the work of one of the most influential public intellectuals of the era.
This conference is being organized by Professor Julian Zelizer.
