"Messengers of Disaster: Raphaël Lemkin, Jan Karski, and Genocide"

Annette Becker, Visiting Class of 1932 Fellow in the Humanities Council and the Department of History


Annette Becker is a professor emeritus of History at the University of Paris-Nanterre. Among her last books: Les cicatrices rouges, 1914-1918, France et Belgique occupées (Fayard, 2010), Biographie de guerre d’Apollinaire, 1914-2009 (Tallandier 2009 and 2014) Voir la Grande Guerre, un autre récit, Armand-Colin, 2014. She coordinated the French edition (Fayard) of the Cambridge History of the First World War (directed by Jay Winter), 2014. Messagers du désastre, Raphaël Lemkin, Jan Karski et les génocides, (Fayard 2018, in English, Wisconsin University Press, 2020). A collection of her work on writers and artists will appear in 2020, under the title, Rendre visibles les extrêmes de la violence. De la Grande Guerre au génocide des Tutsi du Rwanda et aux terrorismes contemporain. (Créaphiséditions.)
