Nicole Hemmer is an associate research scholar with the Obama Presidency Oral History Project at Columbia University. She is author of Messengers of the Right: Conservative Media and the Transformation of American Politics, a history of conservative media in the U.S. She co-hosts the podcasts Past Present and This Day in Esoteric Political History, and is the creator of the podcast A12, a six-part series on the white-power violence in Charlottesville. She is also a writer and producer for the new Spotify podcast Welcome to Your Fantasy.

Nicole co-founded Made by History, the Washington Post’s historical analysis section, in 2017. She has been a columnist for U.S. News & World Report, Vox, and The Melbourne Age, and currently writes for CNN Opinion. She received her Ph.D. in U.S. history from Columbia University in 2010.
