Jinyi Chu specializes in Russian literature and culture of 1890s-1920s, the modernist period. Chu's research revolves around the relationship between geopolitics and transnational aesthetics. Specifically, Chu works on the following topics: global modernism; Russo-Chinese cultural relations; late socialist culture; translation studies. He publishes scholarship in English, Russian, and Chinese languages, and Chinese translations of Russian and English literary and academic works. Chu's current book projects are Fin-de-Siècle Geopoetics: The Chinese Dreams of Russian Modernism and Socialist '80s: Aesthetics of Reform in the Soviet Union and China.
