
Helmut Reimitz, professor of history and director of the Humanities Council’s Program in Medieval Studies, has been elected a Fellow of the Medieval Academy of America. The prestigious fellowship honors major long-term scholarly achievement within the field of medieval studies. He is among 11 new fellows and two corresponding fellows elected in 2023.
Reimitz, who joined the University faculty in 2008, studies the history of the Early Middle Ages in Europe, focusing on the political and social transformations of the Latin West from the end of the Roman Empire to the Carolingian Empire. He is a member of numerous international networks and research groups on early medieval history.
Before arriving at Princeton, Reimitz was the head of the Early Medieval Department at the Institute for Medieval Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, one of the European Centers for Early Medieval Studies.
