The American Society for Legal History (ASLH) recognized Laura Edwards's book Only the Clothes on Her Back: Clothing and the Hidden History of Power in the Nineteenth-Century United States with the 2023 John Phillip Reid Book Award. The award is given annually for the best monograph by a mid-career or senior scholar, published in English in any of the fields defined broadly as Anglo-American legal history. The prize comes with a $2,500 honorarium.
