Hal Olson
Hal Olson is a graduate student working on modern Chinese history. His previous historical research concerned writing system reform in the early People's Republic of China, and he remains interested in the history of linguistics. In particular, he is curious about how linguistic projects served—and were altered by—the larger intellectual and ideological aims of the PRC and Republican governments.
He received his B.A. in History and Chinese from Williams College in 2022. Prior to coming to Princeton, he worked in public history for two years, first at Old Fort Jackson in Savannah, Georgia, and then at Historic Huguenot Street in New Paltz, New York. His writing can be found in Brooklyn Rail and Archer Magazine. He is from Atlanta, Georgia.
