Shelby Sinclair is a writer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin studying twentieth century African American women’s history with a special focus on literary resistance to sexual violence. She is primarily interested in the development of black feminist theory and praxis in post-colonial contexts, the salience of gender to the black intellectual project, and the politics of black women’s anthologizing. Shelby earned her BA degree from Stanford University where she was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow and recipient of the George M. Frederickson Award for Excellence in Honors Research. Before joining the history department, Shelby worked in senior leadership recruiting at Google, Inc.
