Soojung Han’s research focuses on medieval Sino-Inner Asian history, specifically in the fields of ethnicity, identity, and politics. She is currently writing her dissertation on the hegemony among the states during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, giving special attention to the Shatuo Turks and the Khitans, and their roles in shaping the political landscape of this period.

Previously, at Seoul National University, Soojung researched the relations between the Northern Dynasties and the steppe empires, in addition to the nomadic influences on imperial women of early medieval China.
