Clare Anderson is a global historian with interests in the British Empire and its legacies in the former colonies. Her work focuses on prisons and penal colonies, including their relationship to imperial expansion and unfree labour, and convict experiences of incarceration and exploitation. She is currently leading work on descendants of African, Asian and Creole convicts transported around the British and French empires from the 18th to 20th centuries.
